After 2015’s award-winning production of Patience, Manchester Universities Gilbert and Sullivan Society is returning to the MGS stage with Ruddygore, a topsy-turvy tale of witches, ghosts, Hammer Horror villains and virtuous heroes.

Twenty years ago, Robin Oakapple faked his own death to escape the witch's curse that has plagued his family for generations, and his biggest problem now is summoning up the courage to ask out Rose Maybud, a beautiful girl in the village.

When his childhood friend Richard returns from the seas and falls for Rose himself, he lets slip the secret to Sir Despard - Robin's younger brother and the current holder of the cursed title. Robin's wedding day is interrupted as his true identify is revealed.

Now unmasked as Ruthven Murgatroyd, the Bad Baronet of Ruddygore, he finds himself compelled to a life of crime with a picture gallery of ancestral ghosts haunting his every move. With the aid of the Army, the Navy and a professional corps of Bridesmaids, can Ruthven find a way to end the curse once and for all?
